Weather Woes

For much of last week Ireland was battered by hurricane type weather conditions as emergency services battled to maintain control and ensure safety. It was small consolation however to learn from Met Eireann that what the country was subject to last week was not the worst storm on record. That dubious distinction belongs to "the night of the big wind" in January 1839.

The government has set aside funds of €70, 000 to combat the worst effects of the weather onslaught.
