Sligo Rovers Cup Winners

Sunday's FAI cup final at the Aviva Stadium, Dublin, proved to be one of the most exciting Irish cup finals of recent times. Sligo Rovers were billed as favourites given their cup winning performances in this competition in previous years, but they were pitted against a determined and at times aggressive Droheda United side.

With one goal each from either side in added time, allowing Sligo to take the lead, the match reached a pulsating climax.  Sligo Rovers emerged as 3-2 winners for the third time in four seasons. It was a great game to attend and memories of one of the most hotly contested cup finals will stay with me for many years to come.
