10 January 1970 Anti-Apartheid Demonstrations at Ireland vs South Africa |
In a story that conjures up images from the darkest violent days of South African Apartheid a man was handcuffed to a police van by South African police officers and dragged through the streets. Taxi driver Mido Macia later died from his injuries. The South African president Jacob Zuma described the incident as horrific and unacceptable. The South African Police Service said that 'from the video which has gone viral, it is obvious that the rights of Mido Macia were violated in the most extreme form.' 8 police officers were later arrested.
